Keisuke Matsuda’s paintings tend to be viewed as abstract, but in fact he paints “images before my eyes just as they appear.” The exhibition is titled “Eyes and Nose” after the emerging and fading images that remain in the back of the artist’s mind. “I feel like I am always painting what’s right in front of my eyes and nose” Matsuda explains about these works with bold brushwork and colors in his distinctive style. Standing before these freely expressive paintings, the viewer is drawn into Matsuda’s world, remarking candidly “What IS this?,” “It looks just like X,” or “What beautiful colors!”
