This exhibition takes a sharp departure from the cutesy pop “girls’” world of Harajuku kawaii culture. In her first Kansai show, Hinako Hinana presents richly hued oil paintings and delicate dolls revealing the light and shadows of “shojo” (girls) motifs. Also, under Hinana’s direction, the “Maiden Museum” presents paintings, dolls, and sculptures by eight international artists also creating uniquely dark works of shojo art.
