Naoko Watanabe appeals the beauty of color that exists only within paintings. These “unnamed colors” emphasize the importance of taking things that are recognizable from our everyday and releasing them of their preconceptions, so that we can look at them without their preexisting meanings. When people observe colors that sparkle according to the light or colors that exist between two shades of color, the painting becomes more than something to be looked at - it becomes a physical sensation and experience. In this way, Naoko Watanabe strives for freedom to experience art.
