Part-time Suite - The Ballad of Real Estates

After having a critical discussion on the socio-economic conditions they were experiencing in common, a small group of young artists founded Part-time Suite in 2009 as an artistic collective. Their works are focused on cityscapes, narratives in spaces, and the status of artists in these landscapes - rough, poetic performance videos and installations where conditions and constraints are transformed into point of interests through the artists’ intervention and initiation. Since 2013, Part-time Suite has been a duo consisting of Miyeon Lee and Jaeyoung Park, extending their area of exploration into the prevailing economy-centrism that dominates the foundation for everyday life and a little power the arts can create in and against the force.
Presented here are three moving image works “The Ballad of Real Estates”(2015), “The Ballad of Real Estates II”(2016) and a newer work, “Toloveruin” (2017). After visiting ghost towns and squatting communities in Spain and creating the first Ballad of Real Estates, Part-time Suite roamed around the Free Economic Zone in Incheon, Korea, one of the most notable project financing areas in the country and created the second Ballad of Real Estates.
The works of Part-time Suite confront the issues surrounding private property and allow us to consider how we can approach the city through the perspective of art.
