Of all his oeuvre, animal paintings were the most highly regarded among the work of Konoshima Okoku (1877-1938). They were based in a piercing realism that was recomposed through his transcendent technical skill and his unique sensibilities. With their gentle gazes, these animals appear as if they want to speak to us and are imbued with an irresistible and timeless charm. This exhibition presents Okoku’s paintings with the addition of the latest research findings and newly discovered materials relating to his work.
