This event has ended.

The Rimpa School of painting flourished during the Edo period in the early 19th century. Kyoto-born artists such as Hoitsu Sakai (1761–1828) and Kitsu Suzuki (1796–1858) reinterpreted the Rimpa style in an Edo fashion, winning the admiration of people from the daimyo to the general public. The Hosomi Collection was quick to set its sights on Edo Rimpa, collecting works of nearly all its major painters, Sakai and Suzuki included. The museum now presents an extensive look at the elegance of Edo Rimpa’s bird and flower paintings, a genre still adored today.
