Itami City Museum of Art
Museum in The Hyogo (others) area
The Itami City Museum of Art opened in November 1987, utilizing the Kakimori Bunko building located in Itami, Hyogo prefecture. The museum has a significant caricature collection. Central to the collection are over 1800 caricature prints by Honore Daumier, and 29 sculptures and four oil paintings by the artist. Works by William Hogarth, James Gillray, George Cruikshank, and Georges Bigot are also present. Complimenting the collection are works by Belgian painter James Ensor, and German printmaker Kathe Kollwitz. Caricatures are not the only type of art that the museum holds; there are also contemporary art by American printmakers and Japanese painters and sculptors in the collection.
