This event has ended.

Renown for its picture books, puppet shows, and animations, the Czech Republic has also produced many masterpieces of movie poster design as pioneered by Karel Teissig, Milan Grygar, and Zdeněk Ziegler in a departure from socialist realism and the pursuit of bold individual styles. This exhibition, co-hosted by National Film Center, The National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo, introduces 82 movie posters made from the late 1950s to the 1980s during the Czechoslovakian era owned by “Terry Posters”, a gallery in Prague specializing in movie posters. It focuses on posters for the “Czech New Wave” films of the 1960s, as well as those for European, US and Japanese productions distilling a tension of feeling, grace, and humor brought about by the encounter of films and graphic design.
