Hideki Morimoto, who continued to paint his hometown of Uwajima, Ehime Prefecture while living in Tokyo, moved his atelier to Uwajima four years ago. Although Uwajima is the subject of his works, they do not portray specific places, times, or things— rather, they evoke multilayered memories and sensations that anyone of any time or place has certainly experienced. Grabbing the eye with delicate yet rich textures of dyed and washed-out color, as if bleached by a blizzard, these works invite the viewer into thresholds of unreality existing somewhere undefined.
