"The Buddha and God on the Mountains" Exhibition
The Museum Archaeological Institute of Kashihara
This event has ended.
Mountains compose a large percentage of the land in Japan. The Japanese have lived and practiced religious rituals on mountains. In the Jomon and Yayoi periods, people hunted and gathered food on mountains. During the Kofun period, the mountain itself became the subject of prayer as religious ceremonies were hosted. Eventually temples were built on mountains during the Asuka period, to provide a place where monks trained their physical and mental abilities. Hence, mountains and their presence are deeply rooted in people's lives. The exhibition will uncover the human-mountain connection through an archeological perspective.
