"Taikichi Irie and Literary Figures Who Loved Nara" Exhibition

Taikichi Irie has been photographing around Nara Yamato-ji for about half a century. Triggering an interest of Katsuichiro Kamei's Yamato Koji Fubutsushi, he has been strongly attracted to Yamato literature by Tetsuro Watsuji, Yaichi Aizu and Naoya Shiga, and learning an aesthetic sense of those literary figures through Kaiun Kamitsukasa, the chief priest at Todaiji Kannon-in. Nursing his own historical perspective, he photographs the seasonally shifting landscape, the world of Manyo-ka and images of Buddha and captures the Yamato beauty and the prayer's spirits. This exhibition features Irie's color and monochromatic photographs with the literary sentences that he was influenced by.
