This contest is held each month by Japan Camera, which was established in 1951. A famous photographer acts as the judge for a year and announces the winners in each magazine, and calculates the points awarded each month in order to determine the annual prize winner ('beginners' is an annual award given to the best works).
The contest consists of four categories: monochrome prints, color slides, color prints, and beginners. Apart from the 'beginners' category, you must average a certain score each month throughout the year in order to win the top prizes. The awarded prizes are highly sophisticated, making this contest one of the top contests of Japanese amateur photography.
Over 66,000 works were sent in this year. This exhibition features 210 representative works from each category.
