"Through my journeys, I have been photographing local landscapes. I find sordid printings of the city, suspicious advertisements, sexual handbills and back streets with a taste of the Showa period. They make me feel trifling and ridiculous, but sentimental. After I spent a long time photographing such landscapes, I realized that I had captured the real Japan (referring not to metropolitan cities, but local cities). Recording the details of the local cities that go through rapid changes is a proof of my existence in this world."
