In Kyoto, one can see countless works by Tessai; there are house symbols and texts on memorial stones based on Tessai's calligraphic designs. During his younger years, he learned how to create calligraphy on his own, much like how he learned to draw. In his final years, Tessai claimed that his calligraphy will eventually be valued as highly as those by Kukai and Michizane Sugawara. The exhibition features calligraphic works ranging from inscription drafts and letters that exemplify Tessai's free and powerful style.
