The horizontal stone rooms (a common style for a grave) that were a popular way to handle the dead in the late 5th and 6th centuries, first started to appear in northern Kyushu during the late 4th century. It was an alternative to the vertical shaped model, and incorporated ideas from the Korean peninsula.
On the other hand, the cities began incorporating the horizontal style in the late 5th century that differed in characteristics from those in Kyushu. Eventually this horizontal style developed throughout the nation and influenced how people thought of death and reincarnation.
The exhibition features archaeological items that were buried with the dead and other items that represent the philosophies of life and death at that time.
