"Southern Country Tosa Chushingura, Ekin's Theatrical Byobu" Exhibition

There is a festival in Tosa region where theatrical Byobu will be on display. Theatrical Byobu was painted by Ekin during the last days of Tokugawa's reign. Ekin, whose real name was Toi Hirose, studied under the Kano school and was an officially employed painter of the feudal lord Tosa family. He painted theatrical paintings using an original technique and became popular. This exhibition features paintings of Cyushingura by Ekin and his followers.
