Jiro Nomura "One Day"
Osaka Nikon Salon
This event has ended.
The photographer loved places that were less traveled. Seeking out such places, he went for walks along the Tamagawa River and the mountains around Okumusashi, taking pictures along the way. He photographed the morning fog and ivy between the Tsumasaka Ridge and Oomochiyama Mountain, a scene that can no longer be enjoyed today, rural lumber roads that are scenes of perennial landslides, as well as areas of forest that are so remote that not even the sound of rivers can be heard.
As we live in a world in which we are constantly pressed for time, we grow to love places in which time can not be felt. The artist's house in the mountains is just such a place. A year before she died, his grandmother came to visit, in the lovely month of May. He brought some chairs out to the garden, and they had tea. He gave her a small flower, and she went on looking at it for quite a while. It was an image he would never forget. Inside, they talked about old times, and even in the dim room, she moved so slowly he could take pictures even with a slow shutter and she wouldn't be blurred. Later, he remembered his grandmother whenever he saw his dog, who was ten years old now, and never barked. This is a place that is far removed from time, where only quiet remains.
37 Black and white photographs.
