Paying homage at the Kumano shrine had been very popular activity to the Japanese during the Heian period; from the imperial family to regular citizens, they were eager to go through the hike to visit the shrine. This exhibition features a whole map of Kumano shrine which has many cultural properties left along the Kumano walkway.
