"Departure from Common Sense" Exhibition
Contemporary Art Space Osaka
This event has ended.
Since modernism, we have been obsessed with the idea that art has to have a complex and deep ideology. Contemporary art is not an exception; Each piece however, is not a reflection of something difficult such as philosophical thought, ideas from the personal spiritual world and or a socio-political idea. Instead, many works are inspired by everyday trivia and jokes that are easy to understand. Sometimes in art, craftsmanship is not sophisticated and easy to manage. By using the idea of "rejecting common sense," a typical ideology used in manzai (Japanese comedy), viewers can see art as a humorous form of expression. This exhibition features works that use different aspects of humor as the subject matter.
