Nobuo Shimose "Kekkai 6"
Osaka Nikon Salon
This event has ended.
"Kekkai" ("Sanctuary") is the cumulative life work of Shimose stretching over ten years, and this is the sixth photography exhibit in the series.
The subjects of the photographs are mostly familiar natural objects, focussing on the rich flora of west Japan.
At first he thought he would start by searching for special scenery or unusual communities as photographic subjects, but then he became more deeply aware of the involvement of humanity with nature as discovered more familiar natural objects.
For those who eulogize civilization, throughout all eras the movement to return to nature has come from the fact that we come from nature and we must learn from nature. The artist is hoping that through his photographs we will be able to feel the awe of our coexistence with nature and the passing through of a sanctuary into a sacred place.
45 black and white prints.
