"150 Photographers' One Tsubo" Exhibition

Osaka Nikon Salon

This event has ended.

Every year June 1st is "Photography Day", with the aim of promoting and diffusing photographic culture, and, based around this event, "Photography Month" will be held in Osaka and Tokyo. "Osaka Photography Month" started as a response to the year 2000's "Tokyo Photography Month" (Japan Photography Committee), and was first celebrated in June 2002.
This year it is being held in July and will take place in several galleries in Nishitenma and Shinsaibashi, displaying around 150 artists' work in a per person ratio of one tsubo (3.31 square metres) in the "150 Photographers' One Tsubo" Exhibition. This is being held alongside the "My Print: 1000 People's Photos" Exhibition, gathering 1000 photography enthusiasts and, accordingly, exhibiting one print each, as well as the "High School Students' One Tsubo" Exhibition, and linked events, such as commemorative lectures and elementary school student talks.
The "150 Photographers' One Tsubo" Exhibition is the central event and is distinguished by allowing participation from all applicants, regardless of content, method, age, gender, nationality or occupation. Further, the galleries and wall space are decided by lottery, so there will be no selection committee at all. This exhibition will have something of everything, but though it may be labeled "policy-less", "theme-less", in fact its attraction lies in its "okonomiyaki"-like jumble, where an 80 year-old veteran's work sits next to an 18 year-old novice's.
