Kakuzo Takehata Exhibition

Mie Prefectural Art Museum

This event has ended.

Kakuzo Takehata (1919-2006) was a pioneer of Japanese abstract sculpture. Active since the later 1940s, during the 1960s he worked with cement and plastics, and from the end of the '70s with plywood, until his death in 2006 at age 86 occupying an important position in the sculpture world.
Takehata and Yoshitatsu Yanagihara differ in terms of their respective concrete and the figurative approaches. However they were active in roughly the same period and had a relationship of mutual respect. From the opportunity provided by the donation of six sculptures by Takehata's family, and as a homage to these two figures who left a great mark on postwar Japanese sculpture, the museum will be displaying its collection of Takehata's works in its Yanagihara exhibition room.
*Exhibiting at the Yoshitatsu Yanagihara Memorial Gallery Hall B
