The Takamadonomiya Royal Family is active in the promotion of sports and international goodwill. Mr. and Mrs. Takadanomiya also have a profound knowledge of the arts, collecting and studying Edo-era netsuke (miniature sculptures), and have traveled around the world photographing the lives of many people. This exhibition presents more than 290 netsuke dating from the Edo period through contemporary times, the travel and wild bird photography of Princess Takamadonomiya, and imperial clothing. The small first-floor gallery will also display “Ise netsuke,” including works by Tadamine Nakagawa, and traditional netsuke from Mie Prefecture.
