French painting in Russia was all the rage: members of the Imperial family starting with Catherine II to the aristocracy and later the new class of wealthy to emerge in the 19th century with the industrial revolution amassed rich collections, works from which will be on display in this exhibition. 66 pieces from Moscow’s Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts and several French collections spanning 300 years will be on display, from Poussin, Ingres and Delacroix to Picasso and Matisse.
