This event has ended.

Repetition and duplication are key concepts in the screen art of Kohei Takahashi, founder and operator of the alternative art venue Muzz Program Space. Through repetitive motions and images, his films introduce concepts of comparison and difference, raising questions about the definition and conditions necessary for uniqueness.

The focus of this exhibition is a documentary about Harada-san, an art-watcher well known in Kyoto’s gallery circles. The hour of footage follows him as he visits galleries and proposes ideas about Japan’s art world and society, documenting his lifestyle, gambling habits, repairs to his beloved car, trips to the memorable places of his past, and interactions with Takahashi. While Takahashi’s earlier works disrupted context by homogenizing disparate elements, this film proceeds by exploring the vivid context of Harada-san’s personal history. Mixing truth, fiction, fact, performance, and story-telling, this work ultimately leaves the question of who Harada-san is to the viewer.
