This event has ended.

This exhibition introduces approximately 150 Finnish glassworks and ceramic wares from the latter half of the eighteenth century, when the country was still part of the Russian Empire, up to the present day, post-independence.

Distinctive Finnish design as we know it today only began to flourish in the years following its independence from in 1917. Designers such as Kaj Franck and Aaino & Alvar Aalto began to use motifs inspired by the country’s rich nature, its folktales and epics such as “Kalevala,” and began to pursue the refinement of daily utensils as well as decorative objects.
