Shokoku-ji Jotenkaku Art Museum
This event has ended.
A chance to see the masterworks of Edo Period painter Jakuchu Ito, renowned for his eccentricity and individualistic style that set him apart from his contemporaries. Ito was a devout Zen Buddhist and cultivated a strong friendship with the abbot of Shokokuji Temple, the venue for this exhibition. This friendship hugely influenced Jakuchu’s development as a painter and secured his entry into Kyoto’s aristocratic and elite circles.
