An invitation to a retrospective for the Okinawan photographer Takashi Ishimine sparked Washio’s interest in the island chain’s history, causing him to reflect on his previous detachment from and ignorance of it. These 47 black and white photographs reveal Washio’s newfound love of Okinawa.
