This event has ended.

It was in 1926 when Nikolai Nevsky first encountered the story of Miyako Island’s water, myths of water which brings youth or death. In this tale the sun and moon once sent the messenger Akariyazagama with a pail of each water, instructing him to bath humans in the “water of youth” and snakes in the “water of death”. However when he stopped to rest along his long journey a snake came along and bathed in the “water of youth” and thinking there was little other option Akariyazagama bathed humans in the “water of death” instead. The exhibition here presents 16 color photographs which speak of water and its life-giving force but also its darker side of death.
