Mikinao Shinohara “Kyoto Saijiki Pinhole Photography”
Photo Gallery Ittosha
This event has ended.
Pursuing challenging subjects with both digital and film-based pinhole photography, Mikinao Shinohara continues to take a trial-and-error approach to his work. He has added art filters to his lenses as his photography has progressed, finding that the combination of pinhole and art-filter photography draws him into a completely different world.
The Saijiki is an almanac of seasonal words used in haiku poetry. For this project exploring the Saijiki’s themes through pinhole photography, Shinohara tried to use as many art filters as possible, but found his work gravitated toward regular pinhole photos and those with dramatic tones. He hopes to show viewers the possibilities of expression in digital pinhole photography, letting them see and that it is possible to take photos with unique moods. He continues to strive for new expressions while adding to his previous body of work, which includes photography incorporating printing and lens-less zone plate techniques.
