The Museum of Modern Art, Wakayama examines a wide array of artistic expressions across 4 different categories “Wakayama Artists and Contemporary Modern Art”, “Merging Abstraction” “People and Fashion” and “The Expressions of Printmaking”.
“Wakayama Artists and Contemporary Modern Art” highlights through Wakayama associated artists the developments in Japnese modern art since the Meiji era, with the rising influence of Western culture while artists sought to find their own identity. “Merging Abstraction” the brush stroke in abstract painting, as seen in the large scale works of Mark Rothko Kenzo Okada and Masaaki Yamada. “People and Fashion” features a choice collection of garments which take us beyond the everyday. And finally “The Drama of Humanity and the Universe: Fumiaki Fukita, Hideo Horii and Kunito Nagaoka places a special feature upon Japanese printmakers.
