This event has ended.

The ancient oasis city of Palmyra was once a centre of prosperity on the Silk Road, skilfully using the tensions between the rival Roman and Parthian empires until it was eventually destroyed in the 3rd Century A.D. Today it is a popular tourist site and has attracted the attention of archaeologists around the world. This exhibition presents the findings of excavations organised by Nara Prefecture between 1990 and 2011, including a facial reconstruction of a person’s skeleton and their statue found in a burial site.
