Taikichi Irie Exhibition: Early Photographic Works (1945-1965)
Irie Taikichi Memorial Museum of Photography Nara City
This event has ended.
Renowned Japanese photographer Taikichi Irie (1905-1992) spent half a century, beginning from prior to the Second World War, documenting the ancient Yamatoji sites in Nara, his hometown. On the roughly 80,000 rolls of film Irie left behind are countless images: from Buddhist statues and landscapes to traditional festivals and flora and fauna.
This exhibition displays Irie’s photography from the immediate post-war period to the mid-1960s along with a selection of publications he authored about Nara.
