Motoyuki Shitamichi unveils his signature work “Torii(2006-2012)” for the first time in Kansai. This series documents the Torii gates left behind by Japan during its colonization of Asia, these social and religious symbols coming to be forgotten historic relics, swallowed by the everyday of another land. And here Shitamichi does not attempt to excavate them and hold them up as record but instead quietly observe within their now natural landscape.
