This event has ended.

Renowned Japanese photographer Taikichi Irie (1905-1992) spent half a century, beginning from prior to the Second World War, documenting the ancient Yamatoji sites in Nara, his hometown, reflecting the deep power of this area through an array of images from Buddhist statues and landscapes to traditional festivals and flora and fauna. This exhibition follows the work of this leading figure of photography through his various photo book collections, and in part 2 focuses upon his later works, a time when he began to seriously pursue the possibilities of color photography and the continued developments in his ongoing pursuit of the beauty of the Yamatoji.
