Taikichi Irie was known as “twelfth” priest of the eleven-person Rengyoshu order, which plays an important role in the Water-Drawing Ceremony and other Shuni-e rites held at Todaiji Temple in Nara. This exhibition tells the full story of the Rengyoshu, from records of ceremonies it conducted, to descriptions of the everyday lives of its members, and the roles of its behind-the-scenes supporters.
