The 62nd Shikinen Sengu at Ise Shrine: O-Shiraishi

In advance of this autumn’s Sengyo, the transfer of the the kami from the old to the newly constructed Ise Shrine building, a festival called O-Shiraishi Mochi is held whereby locals and worshippers from all over Japan take white pebbles from the site of the old building to that of the new. This exhibition introduces this festival and other events happening during Shikinen Sengu (the reconstruction of Ise Shrine that happens once every 20 years) through related items and photography.
