Commemorating 10 years since the release of his photography book “Nami”, winner of the 1st Foil Awards in 2004, and coinciding with the release of Toyoko Yamazaki’s “Yakusoku no Umi” with his work appearing on the front cover, this exhibition celebrates the photography of Shoin Kajii. Beginning his career as a photographer while still a monk of the Singon Sect in Sado Island, Nigata, Kaiji captures in this series both the dynamism and powerful silence of the waves of the Sea of Japan. The stormy, yet sensitive waves inspire a diverse range of emotions and offer up spiritual depths, as various blues of the sky and the sea take the form of different expressions.
