Mt. Fuji, a symbol of Japan, was registered into the World Cultural Heritage in June, 2013. With a height of 3776 meters, it is a mountain which symbolizes Japan.
There is a period of two months from July to the end of August, when people are allowed to approach the mountain. Every year, approximately 300,000 people flock to Mt.Fuji. In order to receive these climbers, a town in the sky is made at the summit of the mountain. A Sengen-Taisha Shrine and mountain huts welcome the climbers with a warm meal and lodging.
Working from a single-fan hut on the mountain summit, Daisuke Koiwai captures the vitality and energy of Mt Fuji, and the changing landscapes from above. This photography exhibition gathers together sensational images of the sky from dawn to dusk, as seen from the mountain summit.
