This exhibition focuses of “Ordeal By Roses”, a representative series from photographer Eikoh Hosoe’s vast oeuvre. Taking the naked body of novelist Yukio Mishima as their subject, these masochism-influenced works of photographic composition struck major cords with Japanese and international audiences as strange and remarkable. This is the first time “Ordeal By Roses” has been displayed publicly in Osaka since the legendary collaborative series was unveiled more than half a century ago. On display are valuable vintage prints and modern prints from the photo book, as well as works not included in the published collection.
