Yoshio Tsuji “Mountain People”
Olympus Gallery Osaka
This event has ended.
Yoshio Tsuji began photographing the people of Asia while living in Thailand in 1991. He has spent more than a decade visiting the villages of minority groups, particularly those living in the mountain regions of northern Thailand and Asia. His photography focuses on the vitality of Asian children. This series, which introduces the lifestyles and celebrations of people living and struggling with poverty in the mountains of northern Thailand, conveys the passion and energy of yearly festivals celebrated by people who live modest day-to-day lives. These photos capture the culture and customs of field-burning workers, who continue to migrate in search of new places to live, along with their folk clothing. The embroidery work of the costumes of the Akha and Mon tribes can only be described as stunning.
