After finishing his important work at Asphalt magazine, photographer Atsushi Fujiwara set out on a search for truth. This series can be described as a journey tracing his own roots and a search for his grandfather’s spirit, as he travelled to Kagoshima and Okinawa in pursuit of his grandfather’s legacy. Just as Fujiwara worked to build Asphalt to give a platform to young photographers, his grandfather, a poet, endeavored to provide local youths with an education. These photographs of Japan’s southern region are beautiful lyrical poems about a grandfather and grandson.
