The Charm of Square Photos
Gallery Solaris
This event has ended.
Photographs come in a variety of shapes and sizes. For instance, photos taken with film feature different dimensions depending on the kind of film used. Digital photos also have various aspect ratios, including 1:1, 3:2, and 16:9. Changing the aspect ratio of a photo can alter the impression it leaves considerably.
This exhibition presents only square photographs, which have an aspect ratio of 1:1. One might think that square photos do not require much thought about vertical and horizontal dimensions, but in fact the photographer must consider how to capture the subject with even closer attention to composition, as their ranges are smaller than those of rectangular photos. Given the popularity of toy cameras such as the Utsurun, square photos seem to be considered cute and trendy recently. Come see their many charms at this exhibition.
