Masami Goto “Drifting”

Osaka Nikon Salon

This event has ended.

The Yodo mergers into one river from three in the northern part of Osaka. Since long ago it has sometimes been a provider of many things and sometimes swallowed up everything in its path. It neither refuses nor pampers what comes to it. Masami Goto began drifting through life some ten years ago and aimlessly wandered down to the river where he spent every day playing as a child. Here things that came happily, came compulsively, arrived unknowingly after a struggle, got left behind, got washed away, flew, were thrown out…they all ignored each other here, making no assertions, only existing indifferently. Things that loiter for a while, things that get up and leave immediately, things that move in troubled confusion, things that get deeply stuck and dragged along, things that lived until yesterday, their remains— they all desperately try to continue existing, then disappear. This drifter of a photographer imbues the wordless dialogues between them with genuine feeling and courage, capturing their ephemerality and beauty as moments worth remembering in 40 black and white photographs.
