Jakuchu Ito (1716-1800) is especially known within modern Kyoto painting circles for his particularly individual style of painting. Guided in zen and literature by his lifelong mentor and close friend, the chief priest of Shikokuji, Kenjyo Baiso, Jakuchu Ito devoted himself to painting. Studying the techniques of Kano School and the origins of China, Ito’s unique artworks were brought into being.
