This event has ended.

Kenji Tsuruta studied Western painting at Kyoto City University of Arts and has had a profound influence on the artists of subsequent generations during his 40 years of teaching at the university.

The thorough realism of Tsuruta’s work is rooted in the concepts of the natural sciences, and its beauty is derived from a refutation of emotional reaction. Meaning “the ability to find something of value while searching for something else, “Serendipity” introduces works from Tsuruta’s early series “The Ground,” “The Earth,” and “The Cosmos,” as well as a recent collection, “Niwa.” Specimens from his personal mineral and plant collections are also on display.
