This event has ended.

The Japanese work “yaki”, which combines the characters “ya” (evening, night) and “ki” (air, atmosphere), can be translated as “night air” or “night atmosphere”. Still other dictionaries define it as “stillness of night”. Captivated by this refined phrase, Anat Parnass was drawn to lights at nighttime and began photographing their mixture of reality and illusion and the sometimes hyper-realistic world they produce after the sun goes down.

Parnass started this series of 40 color photographs in 2006. These works were taken at various times and in various locations, but mainly in Tokyo and its surrounding areas. Several of the photos feature places and people Parnass encountered for the first time, and many show private scenes. They revel in the inseparable relationship of night and its special light and the unique feelings it evokes.
