Artist’s Statement: The Great East Japan Earthquake occurred in March, 2011. As the earth shook beneath my feet in Tokyo, I felt my resolve swayed as well. A year passed as I continued to think, “I must go to Tohoku.” These photographs pursue the beauty of this place confronting compounded issues of mourning, hardship, daily life, and energy.
