Tessai Tomioka Memorial Exhibition— Tessai and the Road to Paradise
Tessai Museum
This event has ended.
The literati painter and calligrapher Tessai Tomioka (1836–1924) was captivated by the idea of an ideal world inhabited by immortal mountain wizards and purified of earthly matters. He began painting scenes of such a world based on his interpretations of numerous classical Chinese texts. In memorial of the 90th anniversary of the artist’s death, this exhibition presents several works spanning his lifetime on the theme of paradise.
