This event has ended.

This exhibition presents a yet-untitled video installation from the “Causing Smoke” project, shot at Motosuka Beach in Chiba Prefecture, and the “Stereamer Mixer” installation, which incorporates the rotating brush of a car washer. In “Causing Smoke”, puffs of artificial pink smoke rise and dissipate from a smoke bomb lit on the sparse beach. Projections of these images overlap with the “Stereamer Mixer” installation, whose rotating brush juts directly out of the floor and partially obstructs visitors’ movement and vision. The constantly towering, spinning brush stimulates the viewer’s sense of presence in the project, creating correlations with the on-screen smoke intertwining and rising with the wind in a way that agitates perceptions of time and space. Masuya’s works welcome not the dramatic moments, but the drifting ones.
